Help me help you help me

What music relaxes you? REALLY relaxes you? Even in the most stressful of circumstances...like, say, childbirth?

Jack Johnson is all pretty mellow--he's my favorite! You're getting close--I hope it goes well for you!

I turn to the Album Leaf for ultimate relaxation.

I don't know anything about childbirth, but I fall asleep to Joanna Newsom.

Mark Knopfler's voice is my favorite. Low and scratchy and soothing. It sounds like a cowboy by a campfire, or a dad singing his son to sleep. Plus, his guitar skills are phenomenal. He's the lead singer of Dire Straits, and I like all their stuff, but he's done a lot himself, too. And listening to him sounds like coming home, to me. Check him out before you go, and see what you think.

Oh, I really like Kings of Convenience for relaxing music. Barber's Adagio for Strings is a good (neo) classical piece (see http://classiccat.com/barber_s/_afs.htm for a free download). There's also a piece used on the "Stranger than Fiction" soundtrack called "In the Church" (M83's cover of the Cyann and Ben song), that I really like but it's not exactly cheerful-relaxing (there's a version of it on imeem - http://www.imeem.com/popmusic14/music/FfWSjjDm/m83_in_church/).

There's a french gal, Carla Bruni, that I'm fond of. And of course Norah. Norah J. could relax anyone. And I love her. So there.

I cannot fall asleep with music playing EXCEPT for Loreena McKennitt. Besides, how cool would it be for your baby to be born while "The Highwayman" is playing? Very Anne Shirley.

I've been loving your blog, Summer!

Stress, in reality, does not exist. It's a modern construct. A created emotionalized way of thinking and reacting.

A large commercial industry is based on stress and all of it's off-shoots.

That being said, the "1812 Overture" would be dramatic birth music.
